The new vision systems by Makro Labelling

Published: 07/04/2021

Modularity, flexibility and practicality: it is what the market demands and what Makro Labelling, operating in the sector of industrial labellers for the beverage, food, home and personal care sectors, and the pharmaceutical industry, offers to its customers. Makro Labelling has developed two main vision systems for the quality control and the bottle orientation: ALICE allows checking the quality of the packaging implemented and MAIA is the tool that permits to orient the containers to be labelled, to apply labels in the correct position.

Advanced In-line Inspection and Analysis

Going into more detail, A.L.I.C.E. is the acronym of Advanced Label Inspection and Control Environment. «It is a quality control system that assesses the horizontal and vertical position, and the inclination of the label, in addition to its alignment as to a benchmark – both the logo on glass, a capsule or another label», Marcantoni, automation office manager, explains. «Moreover, the system ascertains the correctness of the label and the overlap of an enveloping label, and it can read barcodes or a data matrix, some characters or simply assess their presence».

In its turn, M.A.I.A. stands for Makro Advanced In-line Analysis. «It is the vision system by Makro Labelling for the bottle orientation», Marcantoni adds. «It is based on the Line Scan Camera technology that uses linear scan cameras (mounted also on Follower system – Makro Labelling patent) able to take thousands of linear pictures (1×2,048 pixels) that, glued one after the other, allow achieving a single image that represents the flat developing of the bottle. The result of the successive analysis is the searched benchmark position, which will be used by the plate management system to position the bottle suitably and to receive the first label in the right position».

Diagnostics: the ally is HMI

Makro Labelling founders’ thirty-year expertise, combined with the operational flexibility and the capability of anticipating the demands by a constantly evolving market, assures to satisfy all labelling requirements. Moreover, the technology of Makro labellers provides for automated changeover systems, so minimizing operator’s intervention times; in this way, the company makes processing and line configuration phases more efficient, flexible and leaner.

Finally, the process safety is based on the diagnostics system through HMI that allows immediately identifying the detected alarm and so giving communication to the technical support; the possibility of integrating a modem on the machine for the remote connection by the supplier, makes service fast and efficacious at any distance.
